The mission of the University Academy library media program is to provide resources that support and enrich the school’s instructional goals and afford opportunities for students and staff to become effective users of information. Library goals are: Instill a love for books and reading, train analytical and fearless information seekers, and expand global awareness through literature and media.

Lisa Spellman, Librarian
Bio:  Lisa Spellman joined University Academy in January of 2009 as a Library Clerk.  She became the Library Media Specialist at the start of the 2013-14 school year.  Her degree is from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  She loves to read realistic fiction, historical fiction and non-fiction, and young adult novels.

Batula Hussein, Librarian

Bio: Batula Hussein joined University Academy for the 2021-2022 academic year as the Library Clerk.  She became the Library Media Specialist for 6-12 at the start of the 2022-23 school year. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Masters in Library Science from Emporia State University. She loves to read fantasy, mythology, and young adult. 


University Academy is a public charter school serving students Pre-K through 12th grade who reside in the Kansas City Missouri School District.
