• Clothing

  We realize that accidents can and, most likely, will happen. Pants rip during PE exercises, drinks spill during meal time and soiled clothing is common after nap time. In order to try and make this as easy as possible for both parents and staff, we would like to request that ALL of our UA families send an extra set of uniform clothing to school with their student. UA does not provide an extra set of clothing/undergarments to students. Your student can leave the extra set of clothing in his/her locker if you would like. If the school has a concern or an issue with your student’s clothing and there is not an extra set for them here at school, you will be contacted to provide a change of clothing for your student. 

• Food Allergies

  Due to an increasing number of students with food allergies, all of UA’s classrooms are Food Allergy Aware Classrooms. The food allergies for our students range from mild to severe, life-threatening reactions. These reactions can occur when specific products are either ingested, touched, smelled or from residue from another child who has touched a specific product. For these reasons, we are asking for your cooperation so that all of our students at UA are provided with a safe environment in which to learn.
  
  

  If you have questions regarding “school approved snacks and treats,” please contact your student’s teacher and/or the nurse’s office before sending snacks and treats to school for parties and special occasions. More information regarding food allergies can also be found in the University Academy Parent and Student Handbook. We hope that you understand the importance of this information and we greatly appreciate your cooperation!

• Illness

  If your student has any of the following ailments:  fever (100⁰ or more), vomiting or diarrhea, he/she MUST stay home until symptoms have subsided for no less than 24 hours. If your student presents himself/herself to school before the required 24 hours, he/she will be sent home. Please refer to the following guidelines:

  • must be fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication
  • has not been vomiting or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours
  • must be on antibiotics for 24 hours (only in situations when antibiotics are required)

  -OR-
  

  If your student has any of the following ailments:  cold symptoms without a fever, frequent cough, rash, stomach ache, headache or sore throat without a fever, we recommend that you provide your student with any necessary medication BEFORE he/she arrives at school. This will greatly reduce the amount of time your child spends outside of the classroom.

• Immunizations

  All students entering a Missouri school are required to present certification from a physician or local health department indicating that the student has received all the immunizations required by Missouri law. All immunizations must be up-to-date before students are permitted to attend class. New students will be required to submit a copy of current immunizations before entering school. Returning students will be notified of any immunizations that need to be updated. • Medication Policy

  Please Note: University Academy does not supply any medications to students.
  
  

  If your student requires prescription medication(s) to be used at school, the prescription MUST be brought to the school in the original box/container from the pharmacy with the pharmacy label attached. Parents/guardians will need to complete a parent permission form when dropping off the medication in the nurse’s office. Any medications brought to school without the proper label will NOT be administered or kept at school. 
  
  

  We realize that over-the-counter (OTC) medications are often needed to make your child more comfortable and able to remain at school. If you choose to provide OTC medication(s) for your student, you will need to complete an OTC medication permission form when dropping off the medication in the nurse’s office. 

  • ALL MEDICATIONS (prescription and OTC) MUST BE DROPPED OFF BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN IN THE NURSE’S OFFICE.
  • MEDICATION IS NOT PERMITTED ON THE BUS AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON.
  • STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO CARRY ANY MEDICATIONS IN THEIR BOOK BAGS.
  • PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY MEDICATIONS WITH YOUR STUDENT’S TEACHER.

• The UMKC School of Dentistry – UA Clinic

  Swope Health KidsCARE Dental Services at UA Clinic

  Swope Health has partnered with University Academy to bring oral health services to UA students, families and faculty beginning fall of 2023.

   

  WHO: Open to students, families and faculty, regardless of their ability to pay. The clinic will be staffed weekly by a Swope Health dentist and registered dental hygienist.

  WHAT: The fully equipped two-chair dental clinic will offer preventative dental care and restorative dental care to University Academy.

  WHEN: The dental clinic will be open during normal school hours, Monday through Wednesday. (Monday-Tuesday, preventative services; Wednesday, restorative services).

  WHY: Good oral health is a part of overall health and helps set the foundation for a successful academic year. 

  WHERE: The dental clinic is located near the main entrance of the school, inside the main office. It is easily accessible and eliminates the need to travel to and from appointments outside of school.
