Leadership Transition at UA

Rebecca Gudde accepts role as Interim Superintendent
Kansas City, MO, August 6, 2021 --The University Academy Board of Directors would like to announce an upcoming transition in leadership at the Superintendent level. Mr. Tony Kline will be stepping down as Superintendent on August 30th as he is transitioning careers to become the Chief Operating Officer of the Greater Kansas City United Way.  Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Rebecca Gudde, will move into the role of Interim Superintendent starting August 31st.

Mr. Kline has effectively led UA for the past 8 years.  During his time, UA has reached many significant milestones and we will forever be grateful for his contributions toward our growth.  However, we have been preparing for this moment for the past few years as part of the Board’s Strategic Plan, which included succession planning for the superintendent role.  Since 2019, Mrs. Gudde has taken on a greater role in managing the day-to-day operations of UA.  She has led all summer school operations since 2014.  She led the team that planned the UA conversion to virtual education for the 2019-20 school year, which recently won an award for its effectiveness.  Mrs. Gudde has been the Assistant Superintendent since 2014 and was previously the UA Middle School Principal.  Her 10.5 years of total service at UA has made her a familiar and trusted leader among staff, parents and students.  We are excited for her to have this opportunity.  During the 2021-22 school year, the Board of Directors will conduct a search, which will include Mrs. Gudde, for the next permanent Superintendent.

Sincerely,
University Academy Board of Directors

It is with an abundance of respect and appreciation for our amazing school, its teachers, students, parents, and Board members that I graciously accept the role of Interim Superintendent.  Tony Kline has been invaluable to University Academy and has personally taught me so much about the position that I am sufficiently prepared to continue the UA legacy. My experience of eight years as a classroom teacher, nine years as a building principal and the seven years’ experience in my current role as Assistant Superintendent have led me to this moment.  I welcome this opportunity.

I know you join me in wishing Tony and his family the best of luck with the transition to his new role outside the realm of education.  I am confident in my abilities and know you will support me just as you have Tony.  Those who know me, have heard me say, “my door is always open.”  I stand by that statement and want everyone to know that is still my position.  I look forward to an amazing year as together, we continue to make University Academy the best public charter school in the country.
Sincerely,
Rebecca A. Gudde
