This year in Reading...

1st Quarter:
We will be working toward mastery of the following standards.  We will work on these standards through, whole class lessons, small group lessons, and many read alouds followed by discussions.
I can pronounce initial sounds in single-syllable words.
I can pronounce medial sounds in single-syllable words.
I can pronounce final sounds in single-syllable words.
I can print all upper and lowercase letters.
I can identify the characters in a story.
I can write and speak using complete sentence.
I can identify the setting in a story.


2nd Quarter:
We will be working toward mastery of the following standards.  We will work on these standards through, whole class lessons, small group lessons, and many read alouds followed by discussions.
I can segment spoken single-syllable words.
I can apply correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling.
I can ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information.
I can write a piece that states an opinion and supplies reason with sufficient evidence.
I can identify parts of a sentence including the capitalization of the first word and end punctuation.
I can recognize common and proper nouns.
I can answer questions about key details from text read aloud, information presented orally, and through other media.
I can use illustrations to describe a story's setting, characters and main events.


3rd Quarter:
We will be working toward mastery of the following standards.  We will work on these standards through, whole class lessons, small group lessons, and many read alouds followed by discussions.
I can write an informative/explanatory text, naming a topic, supplying 3 facts and providing a sense of closure.
I can decode one and two syllable words using a variety of strategies.
I can use commas in dates and to separate single words in a series.
I can read words with inflectional endings (-s,-ed, -ing, -es, -est, -er).
I can choose and apply an array of strategies to determine the meaning of an unknown word.
I can ask questions to better understand topics and texts.
I can use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text.
I can identify the main idea and the key details in a story.


4th Quarter:
We will be working toward mastery of the following standards.  We will work on these standards through, whole class lessons, small group lessons, and many read alouds followed by discussions.
I can read the Missouri 200 sight word list.
I can compare and contrast characters.
I can ask and answer questions to clarify the meanings of words or phrases.
I can identify similarities and differences between information provided by pictures, illustrations, or words.
I can write a narrative, including supporting details, recounting two or more events, using transitional words and a sense of closure.
