Letter from the Superintendent

University Academy Students, Families, Staff Members and Friends,

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year.

As you know, we are living in challenging times.  Our country, state, and city are battling the pandemic, and we're all seeing the injustices of racism, economic and healthcare disparities, and many of us within this UA family have dealt with loss and hardship over the past several months.

As a school, it is our job to do the very best we can to prepare our students for college, whether we are in a pandemic or not.  Now, more than ever, we are committed to doing what we've been doing for 21 years, and that is making sure students have access to quality, rigorous education that features not only high expectations and dedicated teachers, but also doing what we can to help families in need.

We're going to connect families with organizations and opportunities to help those of us in the most need.  We still have the Children's Mercy Clinic onsite, and they can still see student patients at no cost, in person or virtually.  We still have the ability to feed families in need.  We still have the ability to be here to help.

We are not politicians, medical researchers or economists.  Unfortunately, we cannot fix everything that's going wrong around us.  But, we can amplify the good and fight the bad.   It is our goal and mission to be a source of light and hope this year, not a source of inequity or stress.

Even though it's a different kind of year, let's take this opportunity to show everyone what we're made of and let's succeed in the face of all this.
