Substitute teachers are an important part of the team at University Academy. They assist the school in continuing the effective educational process provided by our highly qualified teaching staff while staff members are receiving additional professional development or absent from their position for another reason. We strive to provide a strong pool of qualified substitute teachers for these occurrences.

A substitute teaching application may be requested from the human resources department. Please send or deliver your completed application to:

After applying to be considered to substitute, your application will be reviewed by the director of human resources. If you meet the qualifications to substitute, you will be contacted by HR personnel to come in to the office to complete the following forms:

• Transcript of college credits. Unofficial transcripts accepted.
• Missouri teaching certificate or substitute teaching certificate (applied for by the district). 
• Federal and State withholding forms. 
• Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9). We must have photocopies of two forms of ID – generally a driver’s license or social security card or birth certificate. 
• Background checks (criminal and child abuse). 
• FBI/Missouri highway patrol fingerprint check (unless you were employed by University Academy the previous year. 
• Employee technology agreement form – signed. 
• Sexual harassment form.

As soon as you have been approved, your name will be added to the substitute teacher list. Names are added throughout the school year.

Compensation Rate

• Per day - $100.00 (effective August 1, 2009)
