MISSION The mission of University Academy is to prepare students to succeed in an institution of higher education and to participate as leaders in society.
VISION Our vision is to be the best college-preparatory charter public school in the country with an emphasis on college preparation, career development, community service and leadership.
PHILOSOPHY The philosophy of the University Academy is rooted in the mission of University Academy. We expect all of our students to have the skills they need to succeed in college. Consequently, we have made the following commitments to help our students acquire those skills:
- A commitment to achieve rigorous educational results, to adding value each year to the students’ knowledge and capacity to learn
- A commitment to serve the whole child and to help students and their families manage issues that have the potential to detract from the students’ opportunity and motivation to learn
- A commitment to engage the interest, expertise, and participation of parents to build a school culture characterized by high expectations for students behavior and academic excellence, and shared accountability for results.
University Academy Goals
2008 - 2009
1. University Academy will exceed the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standard as set by Missouri Department of Secondary and Elementary Education (DESE) in each grade level for both Math and Communication Arts.
2. The Lower, Middle, and Upper school will achieve the following proficient/advanced targets on the MAP test:
a. Lower School - Communication Arts: 60%, Math: 65%
b. Middle School - Communication Arts: 60%, Math: 55%
c. Upper School - Will meet AYP based on the DESE standards set for end-of-year course exams.
3. University Academy will obtain a school-wide attendance rate of 95.9%
4. University Academy will implement a school-wide character education program.
5. University Academy will increase parent participation in PowerSchool from 30% to 50% for grades 2-12.
6. University Academy will develop a parent/guardian engagement program.
7. University Academy will develop a comprehensive program to expose students to the arts, career choices, college environments, and other experiential learning opportunities inside and outside of the school. This program may include speaker series, career fairs, field trips, summer educational programs, internship opportunities, etc.
Affiliations
University Academy is a member of the Missouri Charter Public School Association (MCPSA), a professional organization serving charter public schools in the state of Missouri. MCPSA's purpose is to improve student achievement by increasing access to high quality charter public education options throughout Missouri.
