Head Boys Basketball Coach
Nodie Newton
Nodie Newton was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 2, 1972. He graduated from Northeast High School, where he played football and basketball. Coach Nodie played varsity football all four years. He briefly attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he majored in Child Psychology, in 1990-1991.
Coach Nodie left school to work full-time at Ford in April 1991. He worked at Ford until 1999. While employed at Ford, Coach Nodie began to coach football as an assistant in the South Suburban League. He was assistant coach from 1995 to 1998 for the Chargers. Coach Nodie developed an intense desire to create student-athletes during this time period. His aim became not just to create students of the game of football, but for the young men to be students for life and to be prepared for successful entrance into adulthood.
In 1998, the Chargers’ head coach moved to Atlanta and the team name was changed to the Seminoles. Coach Nodie began to get more involved in running the team, and in 1999, Coach Nodie became the Head Coach (earning him his name “Coach” Nodie) and the Seminoles team name was changed to the Tarheels. Coach Nodie enjoyed great success on the field. His teams were known for being aggressive, disciplined, and the best. Also, Coach Nodie began coaching the Bearcats Basketball Team. The following year, the Tarheels Organization was created.
In 2000, Coach Nodie became an employee of the Jackson County Juvenile Court as a youth worker. It was at this time, Coach Nodie found his niche. He began to work with at risk and high risk youth. Many of these same youth, he introduced to the games of football and basketball.
