UA's Joe Johnson Selected as the Class 1 Player of the Week!
This week MOsports.com selected Joe Johnson, a middle linebacker from University Academy, as the Class 1 player of the week for his efforts in a 28-0 victory over Harmon (Kansas) helping the Gryphon's improve to 3-1 on the season.
In the victory, Johnson was dominant collecting 12 tackles, a pair of sacks, and an interception. "Joe had a great game as he led us in tackles and sacks and his late interception took a drive away that could have made the game close", commended Gryphon head coach Damon Paul. "He is our leader and the heart of our team. We asked him to move from defensive tackle to middle linebacker over the summer, a position he had never played."
Johnson plays on both defense and offense for the Gryphon's and Paul says the offense runs right behind their talented offensive guard nearly 70% of the time. "He has a great work ethic and a can do attitude.
With current recruiting interest from Georgetown, the Naval Academy, and several schools from the M.I.A.A., Johnson will have options as he continues to create success on the field. The total package, Johnson is a leader on the field with his speed and ability to run down plays, and a leader off when it matters most.
